Sechziger Jahre - Bodo Hennig - The sixties

1961

The forms, colours and materials of the fifties
continued to dominate design in the first half of the 1960s.
 The shapes were still light,
but no longer as playful or extravagant as before,
 rather simple and plain.
The colours became more muted and calm,
 the contrasts softer.
Wood still played an important role,
as for example in the Scandinavian teakwood style.

Wood is combined with plain yellow and green.
The cabinets are flexible, wall units and base units
 can be combined as desired.
The floor lamp is a filigree decorative object.
As towards the end of the fifties, a TV-radio combination is part of the living room.

Ein Interview mit mir über das
Möbeldesign der Sechziger Jahre
dargestellt durch die originalen Puppenmöbel dieser Zeit.
Dieses Hennig-Wohnzimmer ist auch dabei.
An interview with me...
... about the 60s interior design represented in dollshouses of that time.

Vielen Dank an den Fotografen Sven Fennema aus Krefeld,
der meine 60er-Wohnzimmer so gekonnt in Szene setzte!

Many thanks to the photographer Sven Fennema
who found such interesting points of view with his camera!

It is a contemporary tableware made by Crailsheimer.
The beautifully laid-out table was always very important for the proud housewife.

This would be the original 60s tableware by Hennig.

1961 - 1964

The TV-radio-cupboard contains a mechanical music box
playing still very loudly a well known christmas carol.
This type of musical boxes are still on sale
- one of them I put on the TV-music-box.

The radio cabinet until 1960 is a music box
which can still play very very loudly
(especially when standing on a wooden bottom)

However, in 1967 the top cabinets were no longer on sale.

Stahlbeine.
Drehsessel werden in Ost und West populär.
In the mid-sixties, strong colours were once again part of interior design.
A dark Bordeaux red, contrasting colours yellow, orange and blue.
 Metal is combined with wood,
Tables and armchairs have aluminium or steel legs.
Swivel chairs are becoming popular in the East and West.

The carpet is cut out of an original advertisement from that time.
The colour matches the chairs so beautifully.

  2. Oh how lucky were the little girls and boys who received this amazing doll house furniture in the 1950's! Great post! I want it all!

  4. Thank you all - especially about mentioning the photos because that is the hardest part but a new camera combined with the trial-and-error-method proved to be working quite well.

  5. Aha, the twin of Tim's bedsit! And the doll in pink and blue is dressed identically to one in my Bodensee, but yours has stockinette limbs, and mine has foam-wrapped limbs - so the outfit lasted through changes in construction!
I really like the blue rug here, the combination of blue and black is surprisingly rich. Isn't that wonderful that the plant stand matches the curtains? I love all your nick-nacks and accessories - the 1950s picture of Venice is terrific, with the same shades of blue and yellow as the rug and the table :-)
Thanks for the ads and packaging, that really adds to it - especially when I recognise other pieces in the ads!

  6. I love your writing on all the various rooms and furniture pieces. The printed pictures do not do the pieces justice, they are beautiful in real life. I love how you compare the print and your pictures. I will keep reading as always!
